The band do a great job in generating PR and creating a mystical 'what will they do next' buzz around everything they do. And it makes brilliant viewing.
Search 'Radiohead' on Google and you'll get a massive 25million articles!
Most importantly, they've realised that they can play by their own rules and take the risks that traditional music rights holders are scared of.
I met with one of their management team about another band a couple of years back, and it was very clear that he is a driving force behind the new thinking, looking at creating revenue streams, finding new routes to market and also retaining as many rights as they possibly could. He was also very astute at negotiating very agreeable upfront payments and financial terms on behalf of his band, that would have seen a label partner digging very deep.
In my view a much stronger track than 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)', there's no doubt more to come from Radiohead in the coming weeks and I'm looking forward to it.
